Abstract: "This paper provides a picture of the villagers of Setulang, East Kalimantan, Indonesia, and their rejection of IPPK forest conversion licenses during the decentralization era (2000 - 2002). In contrast to other villages in the region, which invites investors in to clear-fell their forest lands, Setulang's fight to protect its forests resulted in a Kalpataru award from the President of the Republic of Indonesia. "This paper explains how the conservation movement came about in the village."
