Abstract: "'Community' and 'class' axe concepts with a long history of usage in the social sciences, both for descriptive and for analytic purposes. This paper explores the relevance of these dimensions of social organisation for an understanding of the prospects for effective management of communal grazing lands is Zimbabwe, and attempts to clarify some of the ambiguities that often accompany their use. It also presents a preliminary analysis of state, collected in a survey of 31 grazing schemes which was earned out between October 1987 and March 1988, and which focused on a similar set of questions."
