Abstract: "In India, a few dynamic local leaders in some areas, a few innovative and people-oriented forest executives in other areas and a few enlightened NGOs in other parts of the country have taken initiatives to develop local land resources on their own. Each is location specific and has displayed certain strengths and weaknesses. Out of these experiences is born the concept of Participatory Management. This concept has the potential of bringing about a socio-economic revolution in rural areas; in the process, improve land and forest resources of the country. This document deals with isolated and individual initiatives. Based on the above, general approaches for Participatory Management are indicated in the document."
