"This article is a comparative analysis of management water supply and sewerage system of municipalities of Indaial and Itapema (Santa Catarina). The context was described as a synthesis of the diagnosis on the water situation at the global and national regulatory frame work of water supply and sewerage system in Brazil and Santa Catarina. Among the features are compared: the historical, socioeconomic, environmental policies, and especially the political context and the results of two selected cases. The general data were based on information available in public documents, academic studies, official web pages, in order to standardize the parameters. The period compared accompanies the beginning of the discussion of the problem, ie, from 2003 until 2009. The experiences of two cities analyzed led to the conclusion that the models of management are important decisions that influence the outcome of policies."
