PIASES social-ecological systems institutional analysis--IAD framework Workshop framework analysis
Abstract:
"This paper introduces a framework of analysis for the Program in Institutional Analysis of Social-Ecological Systems (PIASES) that is in the process of being established at the Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis at Indiana University. This PIASES framework builds on and extends previous efforts to revise the long-standing IAD (Institutional Analysis and Development) framework to facilitate its application to complex coupled social-ecological systems (SES), specifically by modifying a SES framework originally introduced in an influential PNAS article by Ostrom (2007). The key innovation is that PIASES is explicitly built upon a dynamic understanding of the flows of information and resources within both the social and ecological sides of a SES. This framework is intended to provide the foundation for a common language for potential application to diverse forms of resource governance."
