Abstract: "In this paper, several new models of forest tenure and usufruct are compared in the state of Gujarat, India. One, implemented by an NGO (Aga Khan Rural Support Progra [India]) in collaboration with forest department, has focused on revenue and forest lands. A second, implemented within the Surat Working Circle of the Gujarat Forest Department, has focused on revenue and forest lands. A second, implemented within the Surat Working Circle of the Gujarat Forest Department, has focused on forest land only. Two other implemented by NGOs (Sadguru Water and Development Foundation and BAIF) have instead focused on the removal of forest production from common to private land."
