Journal Article The Public's Trust in Non-Profit Organizations: The Role of Relationship Marketing and Management(2007) Bryce, Herrington J."Nonprofit scholars and managers generally recognize that nonprofits need the public's trust for legitimacy, for effectiveness, and for non-financial as well as financial support. Yet, a complete literature search uncovers no operational or managerial definition of the public's trust in these organizations. This article offers an operational guide in tabular form and a conceptualization of the 'public trust' that is applicable to nonprofit organizations, identifies the managerial actions that might impair that trust and indicates what relationship marketing theory says about restoring that trust once corrective action has been taken."Journal Article Research Note: NGOs as Alternatives to Nationalization, Leasing, and Other Forms of Utilization of Public Assets in Developing Countries: A Case and Commentary(2009) Bryce, Herrington J."A common problem in developing and transitioning countries is how to transform natural resources or other existing assets into productive ones when there is a lack of domestic real and financial resources to do so. Traditionally, this has been dealt with through a variety of policies including the licensing of foreign firms (e.g., in mining and other extractive industries), giving easements especially to international nonprofit corporations (the development of the rainforest), by the charging of user fees (waterways and airways) and by privatizing the assets and auctioning stocks in them to citizens as was common in the transition of former Soviet States."Journal Article Trust in Government: A By-Product of NGO Intervention in Public Policy(2009) Bryce, Herrington J."This article develops a theoretical rationale for the role of the rising number of nongovernmental organizations (NGO's), acting as independent agents, in influencing the risk exposure of governments to the loss of trust. In this article, trust is based on government performance consistent with citizen expectations. This performance-expectation connection is a concept in theories of democracy, trust, responsive government, and good governance. A role of the NGO in influencing trust in government is proposed centered on bringing government performance and citizen expectations into alignment."
