dc.description.abstract "Conceived in 1964 and formalised in 1973, CODESRIA is the longest-standing pan-African intellectual organisation on the continent. Because CODESRIA is a community of scholars who create, manage and share intellectual goods outside of the state and the market, it makes sense to understand it as a knowledge commons. Drawing on archival material and interviews with CODESRIA members, I examine how CODESRIA managed to weather the storms of structural adjustment. This in turn casts light on the factors that contribute to building a strong knowledge commons." en_US
