"This study analyses, if the terms developed in the so called 'common-property-theory' can be used to describe the historical evolution of the resource management in Japanese coastal fisheries.
"The work can be divided into three main parts. First, a description of the historical evolution of Japanese fisheries resource management is given. Then the main characteristics of the present system (until ca. 1990) are descibed. The last part illustrates present-day resource management. For this the kombu (Laminaria) harvesters in Hokkaido were used as example, for which the fieldwork-studies of T. Iida and own data were used.
"Another interesting point may be the translation of some basic terms of the common-propery-theory into German, which has been done in this thesis. As this is a master's thesis, the analysis is not complete at all and full of errors, I must admit. Nontheless this might be the only work on fisheries resource management in Japan in German language." |
