Abstract: "By the start of the 1990s, structural adjustment programmes linked to IMF and World Bank lending had been implemented by the government of Senegal for ten years. The IMF strategy has tried to reduce budget and trade deficits by reducing consumption, particularly public consumption, and by stimulating exports through shifts in domestic price policy. The series of three World Bank structural adjustment loans have also emphasised price policy and reduction in state expenditure, particularly through restructuring or abolition of parastatal organisations."
