Abstract:
|
"These are results of a study to identify principal policies, management procedures and other factors contributing to sustainable upland farm forestry systems in Korea and to recommend strategies for research areas in Agroforestry/Farm Forestry development in Asia. Past and present upland farming practices in Korea will be reviewed, paying particular attention to design characteristics. Also, past and present government policies for upland farming and forestry development will be examined and factors which led to success of these policies and those responsible for failure will be analyzed. Linkage between these policies and current conditions of agroforestry in Korea will be examined. Finally, based on Korean experience, viable policy options for development of sustainable and semi-permanent systems of cultivation to reduce pressure in forest cover in the uplands of South East Asia will be recommended."
