Abstract: "The primary purpose of this paper is to review the connections that demonstrate the democratic peace to be a subset of more general integration processes. The following sections will discuss integration, democracy and legitimacy. I will show how the key element of the democratic peace—-the absence of large-scale military violence between democracies—-flows from the development of a Deutschian 'security community.' After pulling all of these elements together in a discussion of 'the good society,' the paper will turn to democracy and development."
