dc.description.abstract "This article investigates the role of knowledge generation in facilitating human adaptive capacity to climate extremes. Knowledge generation assists in the development of innovative systems for adaptiveness. This article uses Social Network Theory to frame and understand how network brokers bridge networks and diffuse novel information and knowledge that helps lead to group innovation or change. Social network data from a flood prone Bangladeshi village exemplifies how a rural network functions during flood and non flood times; which actors comprise the network; and, that certain actors diffuse knowledge that potentially facilitates group adaptability to climate related extremes. Learning from social networks as an rural governing arrangement can inform policy-makers who are interested in adaptation mechanisms in, and adaptive capacities of, climate impacted societies." en_US
