Abstract: "The idea of a public domain in information arises from an imperfect analogy to the concept of a commons, or publicly owned or managed land, in real property law. Yet, until recently, there have been few scholarly writings that have explored the public domain in the information context and none, to our knowledge, that has defined or examined the public domain in scientific data in any comprehensive manner."
