dc.description.abstract"This paper summarizes some social psychological research into the conditions under which solutions to social dilemmas are voluntarily introduced (instrumental cooperation). Consistent with the research of authors such as Knight (1992) and Keohane & Ostrom, (1995), it is assumed that a wide range of inequalities can influence preference for change and that power may be exercised over this decision-making process. Several studies have now been conducted and are outlined in this paper. Some directions for future research are suggested and the importance of interdisciplinary work is emphasized."en_US
