dc.description.abstract"Fishing is one of the oldest means of livelihood of mankind. Fishery-related livelihoods are complex, dynamic and adaptive. In India, fisheries sectors play an important role in the national economy and in the socio-economic development of the country. West Bengal is one of the leading fish producing states in India and the largest producer of fish seeds in the country. A vital part of the economy of the state, West Bengal Fisheries definitely represents such a sector, which has enormous growth possibilities. The study focuses on the pattern and distribution of fishing related livelihoods in West Bengal and provides a better understanding of status of fisheries as livelihood option. This study also tried to trace out the vulnerable districts in terms of fishing activity."en_US
