A Experiencia do Projecto Mocambique/FAO/Holanda em Areas Piloto de Maneio Comunitário do Florestas e Fauna Bravia em Maputo e Nampula

Abstract

"Community based natural resource management (CBNRM) has been adopted as a strategy towards sustainable use of forestry and wildlife resources with the involvement of the local community. This entails access to resources through ownership or user rights to the community and to other stakeholders. The current policy and legal framework, land as well as forestry and wildlife, create an enabling environment for implementation of this strategy. There is a clear recognition of both the rights and roles of the community and the private sector in the use and management of the resources. The National Directorate of Forestry and Wildlife with technical assistant of FAO and Dutch financial support is developing a model of implementation of CBNRM in Mozambique, which can be repeated in similar projects in the country. This model emphasis the need to integrate three variables, a strong community organisation, empowerment and the capacity building in order to incentive the participation of the community in sustainable use and management of the common resources. Further, these should guarantee equity in terms of benefit sharing, access to training and power to make decisions regarding natural resources."
