dc.description.abstract"The 2000 African Women Report intends to focus on the critical issue of gender and governance. This has become a central concern worldwide and in Africa, since good governance is thought to be a prerequisite for sustainable development. The report will assess the situation of women in Africa and make policy recommendations to enhance participation in the future. To this end, the present chapter will define and outline the major conceptual and methodological issues that will undergird the report. Following this, suggestions will be made on the structure and content of the remaining four chapters of the report. It is expected that these chapters will follow closely the issues highlighted in the conceptual chapter. Finally, a list of possible organisations that may be contacted for data will be provided."en_US
