Abstract: "Congregation of the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod of France had a co founder Father Peter Marie Mermier who was also founder for the ‘Missionaries of the Francis de Sales’. The founders’ of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod of France had not envisaged any missionary goal and there was no provision in their Rule at that time for it. At present Congregation of the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod of France is settled in 16 countries including India. Sisters who bid goodbye to their own land, culture, loved ones had the courage also to adapt to the culture of India. Their adaptability and contribution to socio, economic and medical fields are studied. Higher education in India was yet to be realized in 1850s where the Congregation of the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod of France had envisaged a school for girls in India. As they had reached India in 1854, their initiatives within 15 years are studied in this paper. Their adaptability and contribution to socio, economic and medical fields are studied."
