Abstract: "Water is a key component in many economic activities including agriculture, power, transportation, commercial fishing, and industry. So it is not surprising that an inadequate supply of acceptable quality water constrains economic development in many countries. Water demands continue to increase as populations and economic activity grow. Thus, it is now essential that we treat water resources as an economic good and not one that is 'free' for unlimited use."
